We find out the five showtunes Tony McGee would take with him to a desert island. Tony is currently directing and preparing to star in 'White Christmas' which opens in the Carnegie Theatre, Workington on 27th November and runs until 2nd  December 2017. Click here to book tickets.

1. Gethsemene – Jesus Christ Superstar
This song is special for me as I’ve played the part of Jesus twice with WAOS. It was my first lead role when I was 19 years old. The song goes through a vast range of emotions (and musical notes) and ends powerfully with Jesus accepting his fate.

2. Confrontation – Jekyll & Hyde
This is another song that I’ve been lucky enough to sing with WAOS. During the number you play as both Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, good and evil and switch between the two constantly. It’s a great challenge and a fantastic song.

3. Till I Hear You Sing – Love Never Dies
Love Never Dies is Lloyd-Webber’s Phantom of the Opera sequel. I saw the show during its brief run in London and I’ve never been given the shivers during a song like I was listening to Till I Hear You Sing. It was sung by West End and Broadway star Ramin Karimloo, I met him with my wife in New York this year – we told him how much we love this song.

4. Seasons of Love – Rent
This is a fantastic number and we try to find an excuse to put it in any concert or cabaret at WAOS, both Juniors and Seniors. I even managed to squeeze it into my Wedding ceremony when WAOS Juniors performed. A special song for me and my wife, Jen.

5. Do You Hear the People Sing? – Les Miserables

I had to include one from Les Mis – the best show ever! It’s another special show as I directed it with WAOS Juniors in 2016. The atmosphere in the Carnegie was electric and the standing ovations demonstrated that WAOS Juniors had done justice to this epic musical.
